Why, Frequency = 1/Time?

Q: For waves, why is $\displaystyle \nu =\frac{1}{T}$ ?
A: Frequency = No. of oscillations per second

and Time Period = Time taken for one oscillation

If $\displaystyle \nu$ is the frequency, there are $\displaystyle \nu$ oscillations in one second,

Which means one oscillation takes $\displaystyle \frac{1}{\nu }$ second,

$\displaystyle \therefore \frac{1}{\nu }=T$

Or, $\displaystyle \nu =\frac{1}{T}$
